The Resume

    (1986- )
    Born in London, United Kingdom
Karl Wallinger (October 19, 1957- ), vocals, guitar, drums, bass, and keyboards
Recorded the albums 'Private Revolution' (1987), 'Goodbye Jumbo' (1990), 'Bang!' (1993), 'Egyptology' (1997), 'Dumbing Up' (2000),, and 'World Party Live!' (2014)
Recorded the singles 'Ship of Fools (Save Me from Tomorrow)' (1987), 'Put the Message in the Box' (1990), 'Way Down Now' (1990), and 'Is It Like Today?' (1993)

Why they might be annoying:

Except for a few years in the early 1990s when guitarist David Caitlin-Birch and drummer Chris Sharrock were full-fledged members, the 'band' has been Wallinger's solo project.
Most of the musicians listed in the credits of World Party's debut album are pseudonyms for Wallinger.
'Ship of Fools' was their only single to enter the Billboard Top 40.
Confusingly, the album 'World Party' (1999) was recorded by the Goodie Mob. (Fortunately, World Party has not [yet] recorded an album titled 'Goodie Mob.')
Wallinger was bitter about Robbie Williams covering the World Party song 'She's the One,' calling Williams a 'cunt' during one rant over the telephone.

Why they might not be annoying:

Although right-handed, Wallinger plays guitar left-handed.
'Way Down Now' was #1 on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart for five weeks.
'Q' magazine named 'Goodbye Jumbo' album of the year (1990).
Wallinger suffered an aneurysm (2001) that kept him from touring or recording for five years.
In concert, Robbie Williams frequently introduced 'She's the One' as one of the best songs he had ever written. You can't really blame actual writer Wallinger for getting PO'ed.
Wallinger later wrote, 'I was so lucky that Robbie recorded 'She's the One' because it allowed me to keep going on [after the aneurysm]. He kept my kids in school... and for that I thank him!'
