Why he might be annoying:

    He planned to become a composer before Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov told him he had no talent for it.
    He had an affair with Nijinsky, then fired Nijinsky when the dancer married.
    He was a demanding taskmaster.
    When he staged the ballet 'Sleeping Beauty' he insisted on calling it 'The Sleeping Princess' because 'I have no beauties.'
    He dyed his hair black, except for a white streak.
    He frequently skipped out of hotels without paying his bill.
    He died broke, so Coco Chanel paid for his funeral.

Why he might not be annoying:

    For a quarter of a century, his Ballets Russes was the world's leading dance company.
    He commissioned Igor Stravinsky's 'The Firebird' (1910), 'Petrushka' (1911) and 'The Rite of Spring' (1913).
    He hired Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso to design sets.
    His motto was 'Astonish me.'
    His tomb in Venice is visited by dancers who lay red roses and their ballet shoes on his grave.
