The Resume

    (March 9, 1929-September 11, 1970)
    Born in Paris, France
    Radio programmer for Europe 1
    Discovered Dalida
Married Dalida in 1961 (divorced in 1962)
Committed suicide by gunshot to the head (September 11, 1970)

Why he might be annoying:

    He was a Svengali.
Claims that he also discovered Petula Clark are untrue. (He did successfully lure her to France though.)
He was married with a small daughter when he began a five-year affair with Dalida.
He feuded with Johnny Hallyday over his releasing a cover of 'Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini' the same year as Dalida's cover of the same song. (He allegedly broke Hallyday's record on air.)
He divorced his wife to marry Dalida only for the marriage to last just a month (Dalida left him for artist Jean Sobieski).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a powerful figure in the French music world.
He stepped in to serve as Dalida's manager and may have single-handedly orchestrated her global stardom.
For example, he saw to it that her first hit, 'Bambino,' was played practically non-stop on Europe 1. (It rocketed to the top of the French charts and stayed there for almost a year.)
The song 'Who killed grandmother?' by Michel Polnareff was composed in his memory.
He remarried in 1963 to model Agathe Aems, with whom he had two children.
He had remained on good terms with Dalida following their divorce. His suicide is said to have contributed to her depression and eventual suicide.
