The Resume

    (July 16, 1941-May 25, 2006)
    Born in Kingston, Jamaica
    Birth name was Desmond Dacres
Recorded the singles 'Honor Your Father and Mother' (1963), '007 (Shanty Town)' (1967), 'Israelites' (1968), 'It Mek' (1969) and 'You Can Get It If You Really Want It' (1970)

Why he might be annoying:

On his first album, his last name was misspelled 'Dekkar.'
The lyrics to his biggest hit, 'Israelites,' are incomprehensible.
His career waned after his producer, Leslie Kong, died (1971).
    He went bankrupt (1984).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first reggae singer to hit internationally, as 'Israelites' went Top 10 in the US and Number One in Britain, Germany, Holland, Canada and Sweden.
A commercial for Maxell tapes revived interest in 'Israelites' (1990).
Mark Lamarr of BBC Radio 2's Reggae Show said, 'He couldn't do a bad show -- he was always magnificent.'
