Actor

The Resume

    (April 17, 1929- )
    Born in Harvey, North Dakota
Birth name is Gerald Michael Charlebois
Acted in 'As This World Turns,' 'Beast from Haunted Cave,' 'Atlas,' 'Ski Troop Attack,' 'The Message,' '100 Rifles,' 'Body of Evidence,' 'Major League 2,' and 'Castaway'
Best known for the role of Apollo in Star Trek.
Also provided the voice for Olympius in 'Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue'
Provided the voice for Alex Rosewater and Braya in Anime classics, 'The Big O' and 'Eureka Seven'
Provided voice work for the video games, 'Beat Down,' 'Dynasty Warriors,' 'Operation Darkness,' 'The Bouncer,' and 'Warriors Orochi'
Also had memorable guest spots on The Rifleman, 'Zorro,' 'The Twilight Zone,' Gilligan's Island, Get Smart, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Bachelor Father , Daniel Boone , 'Branded,' and 'Perry Mason'

Why he might be annoying:

He changed his name to 'Michael Forest' because it bothered him people thought he was French.
He argued with his casting agent over whether or not he 'spoke English with a French accent.'
He was typecast as Indian chiefs on television Westerns.
He was a beefcake staple in Roger Corman quickies at the height of the 'peplum boom' of the 60s.
He started out as an amateur boxer with acting aspirations but was made to choose between the two (he quit the ring).
His most memorable role was his one-episode stint on Star Trek, playing a toga-clad Apollo in 'Who Mourns for Adonis?' (his buff, bare-chested Apollo was extremely popular with gays of the boomer generation).
He was made to put scotch tape over his nipples beneath layers of makeup, to satisfy censors, while playing Apollo.
He said 'I don't think there's anything terribly memorable in what I did .... I would like to have had a big role in some film that was a little more important, but that never happened.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He appears in the Star Trek blooper reel.
He did his own stunts whenever possible.
He is a flying enthusiast who pilots his own ultralight plane whenever he has the opportunity.
He is a health nut who has stayed in fantastic shape into his 80s.
He caught heat for being a Caucasian and playing Indian roles, but he's actually one eighth Sioux and Chippawa.
He made a memorable appearance on The Rifleman as an Apache who kidnaps Johnny Crawford intent on making him his son.
He performed Shakespeare at the San Diego Globe Theater, which referred him to Star Trek's producers for the role of Apollo (who felt Shakespearean actor would be able to handle the character's complex dialogue).
He is a good sport about his popular following with Trekkies, going to Star Trek fan conventions whenever invited (and reprising his Apollo role for the fan-produced web series, 'Star Trek Continues').
He played a gay prison inmate in 'Deathwatch,' when the topic was still taboo (opposite a pre-Star Trek Leonard Nimoy interestingly).
