Why he might be annoying:

    He was a Lawrence Welk regular ('nuff said).
    He turned down an offer to host his own TV show in Australia.
    He apparently was Sheryl Underwood of The Talk's tap dancing role model.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He entered show business at age thirteen.
    He was the first African American to be part of Bob Hope's USO Tours.
    He was the first African-American regular on a variety television program.
    When Betty White was pressured to stop featuring him on the show because he was black and some viewers were complaining, she responded: 'I'm sorry, he stays. Live with it.'
    White then proceeded to give him even more airtime on her show. It was cancelled soon afterward.
    He made a cameo appearance with other famous tap dancers in 1989's 'Tap' starring Gregory Hines.'
    He was reunited with Betty White in 2017 for NBC's 'Little Big Shots: Forever Young' with Steve Harvey, in which he performed 'It Don't Mean a Thing' as a tribute.
    He was inducted into the International Tap Dance Hall of Fame (2020).
