    (October 9, 1907-November 5, 1982)
    Born in Le Pecq, France
    Birth name was Jacques Tatischeff
Directed 'The Big Day' (1949), 'Mr. Hulot's Vacation' (1953), 'Mon Oncle' (1958), 'Playtime' (1967), 'Traffic' (1971) and 'Parade' (1978)
Appeared in most of his films as the character Mr. Hulot
    He started as a mime.
Not surprisingly, his films have very little dialog.
He sunk much of his fortune into the elaborate sets for 'Playtime' and went bankrupt when the film failed at the box office.
Rowan Atkinson cited Mr. Hulot as an inspiration for the creation of Mr. Bean.
He was a master of physical comedy and visual gags.
Behind the comedy, his films offered a critique of modern life and materialism.
'Mon Oncle' won an Oscar and a New York Film Critics Award as best foreign language picture and a Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.
