Why Star Trek Continues might be annoying:

It was basically televised fan fiction.
Its very existence is kinda presumptuous.
Its eleven episodes stretched over four years.
Funds for all episodes were crowdfunded on Kickstarter and later Indiegogo.
William Shatner had to publicly ask them to stop using his picture to fundraise for the project on multiple occasions.
There were plans for an additional two episodes but legal issues prevented it.
They couldn’t resist doing a political-themed show and the episode ‘Embracing the Winds’ is a blatant and obvious allegory for the 2016 Presidential election.

Why Star Trek Continues might not be annoying:

It is rare as an almost exclusively fan-funded show.
It gave Vic Mignonga the chance to show his talents beyond voice acting.
Its reception was overwhelmingly positive from both fans and critics.
It won a Webby Award for People's Choice – Long Form Drama in 2016.
It won a Geekie Award for Best Web Series, as well as numerous Telly and Accolade awards.
It originated as three short fan-made vignettes in late 2012 and led to calls for full episodes.
As a complete fan-made property, its creators were all determined from the start to be as accurate and faithful to the original material, while also creating something entirely new.
They race swapped Spock by casting Asian actor Todd Haberkorn and made the change work.
It brought back fan favorite guest stars Jason Isaacs (as Gabriel Lorca) and Michael Forest (as Apollo).
