She was both the first Korean American and first Miss Alaska to become Miss America.
She chose the Special Olympics for her social impact initiative, inspired by her older brother Brendan, who has Down syndrome and participates in Special Olympic events in Alaska.
She said, 'I want to show people Miss America is real. She's a real girl with struggles like anyone else.'
