The Resume

    (January 1, 1955-November 29, 2021)
    Born in Columbia, South Carolina
Birth name was Dewey LaMarr Hoyt, Jr.
Pitcher for the Chicago White Sox (1979-84) and San Diego Padres (1985-86)
    98 wins, 68 losses
    3.99 career ERA
    Cy Young Award winner (1983)

Why he might be annoying:

He claimed that he wanted to get a spot in the history books as the pitcher who gave up Pete Rose's record-breaking 4,192nd hit, so he told his catcher to ask Rose if he wanted to be told what pitches were coming. (It didn't work; Rose set the record a game later with a hit off Eric Show.)
His weight ballooned to 280 pounds, prompting the White Sox to send him to a fat farm.
He missed a start after burning his back hair while trying to light a fart.
He was arrested twice for drug possession twice in a ten-day period (February, 1986).
He was sentenced to 45 days in prison, 5 years of probation and a $5,000 fine (December 16, 1986) after he was arrested after the US-Mexico border with 500 pills stuffed in his pants and socks.
The White Sox considered resigning him after he was cut by the Padres, but changed their minds after yet another drug bust (December 5, 1987), that resulted in his spending seven months in jail for violating probation.
He was arrested for DUI (1991).

Why he might not be annoying:

After his parents divorced and his father won custody, his mother kidnapped him when he was six months old and took him to California.
His father tracked him down, took him back, then left him with his sister Margaret.
Margaret said of his parents, 'Neither showed any concern or love for him.'
Bill James said he had the best control of any NL pitcher of the era.
He led the AL in fewest walks per nine innings for three seasons (1982-83, 1985).
He only made the All-Star Game once, but he made the most of it, being named MVP (1985).
