    She frequently took her husband's place at demonstrations when he was in prison.

    Her frequent arrests and imprisonments undermined her health.
    During her final imprisonment, British authorities suggested using the new drug penicillin to treat her pneumonia, but Mahatma insisted on using traditional Ayurvedic medicine instead.
