Why she might be annoying:

She had little professional singing experience prior to recording 'The Girl from Ipanema.'
When 'The Girl from Ipanema' came out, she was not even credited.
She did not release her first solo album under her own name until 1965.

Why she might not be annoying:

After her initial success, she went on to record several more albums for the Verve label.
She worked with such major jazz artists as Stan Getz and Antonio Carlos Jobim.
In the late 1960s, she started writing more of her own songs.
Her fans include Basia, Sinead O'Connor, and Sade.
She remained a big star in Brazil.
She was an animal rights advocate.
