The Resume

Vice President/Spokes person for International Star Registry (1979)

Why he might be annoying:

He founded/advertised EthicalEmail.com, a 'do not Email' service. It not only required your email address but your home mailing address but was unable to guarantee anything.
Wired said 'The International Star Registry is not in the business of officially assigning star names; it is in the business of finding people willing to part with their money for a piece of paper that in a scientific sense, means precisely nothing.'
He threatened to sue Ohio Wesleyan University for hosting a site that criticized his company.
ISR sued another company that named stars claiming trademark infringement (1999).
Major legitimate scientific and astronomical groups do not recognize his star naming.
He refused the Astronomical community's request to say this was unofficial by saying 'Why, after the astronomy community has been so nasty to us, should I do them any favors? They're requesting something of me. Why should I do it based on their request after they've been so nasty?'
Marc Taylor of the Andrus Planetarium in Westchester, New York said: 'If you want to buy something for a child, why not get them a beginner's astronomy book, or even a pair of binoculars?'
    He charges $54.

Why he might not be annoying:

Although in his commercial he makes it sound like the star naming is authentic, he admitted 'Well, it's not official.'
Although misleading, International Star Registry sends the purchaser a star map, parchment, booklet and does copyright the star name.
His customers include Martin Short, Stephanie Powers and Brooke Shields.
