    Philip Berrigan (October 5, 1923-December 6, 2002), born in Two Harbors, Minnesota
    Roman Catholic priests and anti-war activists
    Founded Clergy and Laity Concerned About Vietnam (1968) and the Plowshares Movement (1980)
    Philip wrote 'Punishment for Peace,' 'Widen the Prison Gates,' Fighting the Lamb's War' and 'Prison Journals of a Priest Revolutionary'
    Daniel wrote 'Trial of the Catonsville Nine,' 'Night Flight to Hanoi,' The Kings and Their Gods: The Pathology of Power' and 14 volumes of poetry

Why they might be annoying:

    They used homemade napalm to burn draft records.
    Philip said of Daniel after one arrest, 'Devoured by jealousy, I accused him of grandstanding.'
    Philip was excommunicated for secretly marrying a nun.
    Philip and his wife were arrested for allegedly plotting to kidnap Henry Kissinger. (They escaped with a hung jury.)
    Philip admitted 'even sympathizers think Plowshares actions [such as striking weapons with hammers and pouring blood or red paint on files] look ridiculous now.'

Why they might not be annoying:

    Philip served in World War II and was appalled by the racism he encountered in boot camp in the deep south.
    They were civil rights activists, participating in sit-ins and boycotts.
    They were willing to go to jail for their beliefs.
    Daniel devotes much of his time to volunteer work in hospitals, focussing on AIDS patients.
    Shortly before his death from cancer, Philip said, 'We tried to stay in there, speaking some sanity and nonviolence. We didn't quit. That's epitaph enough.'
