The Resume

    (December 4, 1918-July 23, 2011)
Born in Atlantic City, New Jersey
Taught math and physics at Highland Park Community College and Wayne State University in Michigan
Wrote 'Prospects of Immortality' (1962) and 'Man Into Superman' (1972)
Founder of the Cryonics Institute and Immortalist Society
Known as the 'father of cryonics'
Had himself cryonically frozen for future re-animation

Why he might be annoying:

His inspiration was a sci-fi story rather than an actual scientific breakthrough.
In order for cryonics to work, future science is not only going to have to find a cure for whatever killed you in the first place, it's also going to have to find a cure for the cell damage caused by freezing and thawing.
The whole thing also makes the egotistical assumption that the people of the future are going to find you sufficiently fascinating to go to the trouble of thawing out your dead ass.
He had both his first and second wives frozen, setting up a potentially awkward social scene after the big thaw.

Why he might not be annoying:

He received the Purple Heart during World War II.
Isaac Asimov reviewed 'Prospects of Immortality' and claimed the science behind it was sound.
His second wife was a marriage counselor, so maybe she'll look upon bigamous reanimation as a new challenge to tackle.
He said, 'If your body is being frozen and preserved, as technology advances, there’s going to be a chance for you. If you go into the ground and the worms get to you — guess what? — there’s no chance.'
