The Resume

    (circa 2006- )
    Born in Linkoping, Sweden
    Rock/metal group
Tobias Forge (as Papa Emeritus I/II/III and Cardinal Copia) - frontman/lead vocalist/multi-instrumentalist
Backing band are called the 'Nameless Ghouls' (each Ghoul representing one of the alchemical elements Fire, Water, Earth, Air and Ether)
Recorded the albums 'Opus Eponymous', 'Infestissumam', 'Meliora', 'Prequelle' and the EPs 'Popestar' and 'Seven Inches of Satanic Panic'
Recorded the songs 'Year Zero', 'Cirice', 'He Is', 'Square Hammer', 'Rats', 'Dance Macabre' and 'Kiss the Go-Goat'

Why they might be annoying:

Like Marilyn Manson, Venom and Coven before them, they adopted the controversial 'Satanic rock' gimmick.
Their Satanic gimmick led to their music being banned from some American stores and radio stations.
The 'Ghost' moniker was also linked to a number of other older metal bands as well as a conservative podcasting pundit. (From 2012-15 the band would refer to themselves as 'Ghost B.C.' in America to avoid confusion with these other acts.)
As frontman, Tobias Forge assumed several different alteregos: Three generations of 'Papa Emeritus' and then 'Cardinal Copia'.
The Papa Emeritus character wasn't created by Forge himself, but an associate of a former Nameless Ghoul before the band formed.
The band has a revolving door of Nameless Ghouls - masked musicians whose identities remained anonymous during their tenure in the band.
In 2017 several former Nameless Ghouls sued Forge over pay and royalty disputes.
Their newer material (since 2018's 'Prequelle' album) began incorporating more pop elements, which some fans of their older black-metal style criticized as 'selling out'.

Why they might not be annoying:

Their music is very eclectic in style, mixing metal and hard rock with progressive rock, acid rock, arena rock and pop music.
Dave Grohl was a guest performer on a few of their songs, and briefly played live with the band as a Nameless Ghoul.
