    He declared 'the science is not settled' on the causes of global warming.
    He worked with Democrats to craft a bipartisan infrastructure bill, only to vote against it (2021).

    He served in the Marines as an intelligence officer.
    He co-sponsored a bill to end the family separations caused by the Trump administration's 'zero tolerance' policy on illegal immigration (2018).
    He was rated as one of the ten most bipartisan senators by the Lugar Center (2019).
    He told a group of pro-Trump supporters demanding that he vote against certifying the Electoral College results, 'When it comes to the law, our opinions don't matter -- the law matters.' (January 6, 2021).
    Politco noted, 'He's proven much more at ease pontificating about the 'fourth industrial revolution' talking about cultural war issues such as a gender-neutral Potato Head.'
