    Drafted 145th overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft
    Defenseman for CSKA Moscow (1978-89, 2009-10), New Jersey Devils (1989-95) and the Detroit Red Wings (1995-98)
    Hockey Hall of Fame inductee (2001)
    Russian Minister for Sport (2002-08)

Why he might be annoying:

    Despite being a seasoned veteran in the Soviet Union's hockey league, he was considered an NHL rookie at age 31.
    When he announced his intentions to play in the <10801>National Hockey League<10801>, the Soviet government threatened to banish him to the Ukraine if he did not apologize.
    He was originally drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in 1978, but was forced to re-enter the draft when he wasn't allowed to leave the USSR.
    He made a one game comeback at the age of 51 (2010).
    His first name was often shortened to Slava, because many journalists and fans alike had trouble pronouncing his actual name.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He is considered one of hockey's most seasoned players.
    He was a member of the Soviet Union's back to back Olympic Gold Medal winning teams (1984 and <16898>1988 He was a member of both the Red Wings Stanley Cup championship teams in the 1990's.
    He survived two near-fatal car accidents, the first one which claimed the life of his younger brother (1985) and the second, he was riding in a limousine driven by a drunk driver which crashed into a tree paralyzing both teammate Vladimir Konstantinov and team trainer Sergei Mnatsakanov (1997).
    He left both collisions with minor injuries.
    He was the architect of Russia's Bronze medal winning Men's Olympic hockey team (2002).
    As a result of his decorated resume on the international stage, he earned International Centennial All-Star Team honors.
