Why he might be annoying:

His restaurateur father probably smoothed his entry into the business.
He claimed his father took him out of Cornell University where he was studying law, and sent him to Paris to learn how to make a sauce for filet of sole (doubts have since been cast that this is even true).
His and his father's New York restaurant was closed during Prohibition.

Why he might not be annoying:

He wrote articles for the Saturday Evening Post.
His Broadway restaurant gained fame in a 1909 Broadway musical, 'The Girl from Rector's.'
His restaurant Frontier House in Lewiston, New York, is now on the Register of Historic Places.
His widow died less than two months after he did at their Stamford home.
His food column was published by 22 newspapers.
He said: 'It is a pleasure to me to talk to people who appreciate good food and who realize that cooking is one of the fine arts.'
