Why she might be annoying:

She started as a punk singer in a band called Drug Addix.
Although she was an accomplished songwriter, her biggest hits were covers, such as Billy Bragg's 'A New England' and the Kinks' 'Days.'
She divorced musician Steve Lillywhite but continued to hire him to produce her records.
She suffered from stage fright.
She had such a severe case of writer's block in the late 90s, she considered quitting music and becoming an English teacher in South America.

Her lyrics were known for their biting wit.
Her song 'They Don't Know' became a hit for Tracey Ullman.
Her trips to Cuba and Brazil to investigate teaching opportunities inspired her to record a world music album.
She died at the resort of Cozumel when she pushed her son out of the way of a speeding powerboat that had entered a restricted area.
He duet with the Pogues on 'Fairytale of New York' made the British top 10 three times (1987,2005-06) and was repeatedly voted favorite Christmas song by VH-1 viewers (2004-06).
