She smoked.
She married and divorced three times.
She was typecast as a low-class working girl in most of her early movies.
She wrote two books on needlepoint in the 70's.

She made a comeback in 1988 when Tim Burton cast her as Juno in 'Beetlejuice,' which introduced her to a whole new generation of movie goers.
She had large, doe-eyes.
She was the first actress to be photographed in 'outdoor technicolor' when she starred in 'The Trail of the Lonesome Pine' in 1936.
She continued acting until her death.
