The Resume

Directed the films ‘Miss Tatlock’s Millions’ (1948), ‘Dear Wife’ (1949), and ‘Mr. Music' (1950)
Portrayed Edwin Carp on radio’s ‘The Charlie McCarthy Show’

Why he might be annoying:

He managed a banana plantation in Jamaica until it was wiped out by a hurricane.
He called off an engagement to Mara Riva after three months. (Possibly because he was a lot closer in age to Riva’s mother, Marlene Dietrich)
For most of his roles, he adopted a nasal voice and pompous manner. (‘The Sound of Music’ was a notable exception.)
He portrayed a caricatured Japanese businessman in an episode of Bewitched (1968).

Why he might not be annoying:

He reprised his Edwin Carp character on an episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show that saluted old-time radio performers (1964).
He avoided the usual Hollywood nightlife, preferring gardening for recreation.
He donated his body to the UCLA medical school.
