Author

The Resume

    (February 22, 1938- )
    Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee
    Middle name is Scott
    Author of 'Mumbo Jumbo' (1972)
Other works include 'Yellow Back Radio Broke Down (1969),' 'The Last Days of Louisiana Red (1974),' 'Flight to Canada (1976)' and 'Japanese by Spring (1993)'

Why he might be annoying:

His books have been attacked by other black writers, feminists, and Establishment critics, who have accused him of being 'overly cynical and of harboring a hatred of women.'
He was accused of taking a veiled shot at Alice Walker with one of his proxy characters in 'Reckless Eyeballing.'
Some of his commentary veers into race baiting territory (see: 'Barack Obama and the Jim Crow Media, the Return of the Nigger Breakers').
He confusingly referred to CNN as the 'Tea Party network' (isn't that FOX or something?)
He hated Hamilton enough to pen a doozy of a play called 'The Haunting of Lin-Manuel Miranda' (talk about salty!)

Why he might not be annoying:

He co-founded the East Village Other in 1965, an underground newspaper that achieved a national reputation.
He coined the literary term 'Neo-HooDooism.'
He is one of the most respected and revered black intellectuals.
He taught at the University of California, Berkeley for over thirty years, retiring in 2005.
Two of his books have been nominated for National Book Awards, and a book of poetry, Conjure, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize.
His texts and lyrics have been performed, composed or set to music by Taj Mahal and Mary Wilson, among dozens of other musicians.
George Clinton has cited Mumbo Jumbo as a primary source of inspiration for his P-Funk mythology.
He said: 'When the press characterized the Simpson trial as the trial of the century, in a century in which the Nuremberg trials had occurred, were they saying that this one blonde was worth more than all the victims of the Nazis?'
