    Wrote screenplays for the films 'Camille' (1936), 'Foreign Correspondent' (1940), 'The Tuttles of Tahiti' (1942), 'Mrs. Minever' (1942) and 'Forever and a Day' (1943)
    Hosted CBS Radio's 'Hallmark Playhouse' (1948-53)

Why he might be annoying:

    He married his second wife 7 days after divorcing his first wife. (His second marriage also ended in divorce.)
    Many of his novels are considered overly sentimental.
    He co-wrote the book and lyrics for 'Shangri-La,' a flop Broadway musical based on 'Lost Horizon.' (1956)
    'Lost Horizon' also became a flop Hollywood musical (1973).

    He had his first novel published while he was a college undergraduate.
    He said, 'The only trick I know in writing is to have something to say and to say it as simply and effectively as possible.'
    He won an Oscar for co-writing the 'Mrs. Miniver' screenplay.
    'Lost Horizon' (1937), 'Goodbye Mr. Chips' (1939) and 'Random Harvest' (1942) were adapted into popular and critically acclaimed movies.
