Why he might be annoying:

He pronounced his name 'Peeps' (just like the sugary marshmallow chicks).
He was a heavy drinker.
When he was 22, he married a 15-year-old girl.
He cheated on his wife many times.
In his diary, he documented his drunkenness, womanizing, love of pornography, and even masturbation.
He often resolved to give up his bad habits, but never did.
He was superstitious.
He once claimed to have gotten a cold because he had his hair cut.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was extremely modest.
He was fascinated by the everyday world around him.
He never sugarcoated himself in his diary, which is what makes it so interesting.
During the Great Fire of London, he helped save important buildings by pulling down structures around them.
He loved going to taverns, coffeehouses, and the theater.
His wife was stupid and boring.
He survived an operation to remove a kidney stone the size of a tennis ball.
He had to stop writing his diary because he got terrible headaches.
The diary is one of the most important documents of 17th-century history.
