The Resume

    (April 12, 1992- )
    Born in Durban, South Africa
Birth name is Chad Guy Bertrand le Clos
    South African competitive swimmer
Commonwealth record holder in the 50 and 100-metre butterfly
Won Gold in the 200-metre butterfly and silver in the 100-metre butterfly in the 2012 London Olympics
Won Silver in the 200-metre freestyle in the 2016 Summer Olympics
Drew international attention as the object of a 'mean' stare from Michael Phelps in the moments leading up to their facing off in the 200-meter butterfly semifinals (#PhelpsFace, 9 Aug. 2016)
Receiveded the silver Order of Ikhamanga, South Africa's Highest Honor (27 April 2013)

Why he might be annoying:

    He is cocky.
What's with the boxing moves? You're a swimmer, dude...
He tried to fake Phelps out with said shadow boxing moves, but failed. (He finished fourth as the event's defending champion.)
He also repeatedly tried to make eye contact with Phelps during the meet, but was ignored.
His athletic ability was completely overshadowed by his status as the object of the pouty-lipped #PhelpsFace.
He passive-aggressively taunted Phelps to the press after his surprise upset against him at the 2012 London Olympics.
His trash talking may have motivated Phelps to sign on for the 200-metre butterfly when he wasn't planning on it.
Specifically, after winning the 100-meter World Championship butterfly event, he said 'Michael Phelps has been talking about how slow the butterfly events have been recently ... I just did a time he hasn't done in four years. So, he can keep quiet now!'
His Wikipedia page was vandalized after his loss, with (later deleted) lines like 'He died by the hands of Michael Phelps, being literally blown out of the water by the greatest American since Abraham Lincoln.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He claims to still idolize Phelps as his hero.
He began his competitive swimming career at the age of 10.
In 2012, he dealt Michael Phelps his first Olympic loss in ten years.
He is a three-time Overall Swimming World Cup champion (2011, 2013-14).
His parents were both battling forms of cancer during the time of the Rio Olympics.
Some criticized Phelps for exhibiting mean-spirited or 'childish behavior' towards his rival.
His father became a mini celebrity after speaking to reporters about his son's 2012 Olympics win.
Consolation prize - general consensus is that he's better looking than Phelps (who needs 25 Olympic medals when you're good looking anyway?)
