His stock photos with the OJHL’s North York Rangers gave off the impression he was legitimately a prospect for the New York Rangers, due to the similar uniform style.
He didn’t go further than playing in the Canadian university ranks.
He was signed to a one game contract by the Leafs due to salary cap constraints.
He was brought into game with over a minute left in the third, which some pundits felt was done as a publicity stunt.
He essentially served as a filler in the game since the Leafs were comfortably blowing out the Montreal Canadiens.

Why he might not be annoying:

He posted solid numbers while playing for North York of the OJHL.
He majored in environmental science at the University of Toronto.
He grew up as a Maple Leafs fan.
He fulfilled a childhood dream by playing for the team.
He was the NHL’s second feel-good story during the 2022-23 season after Matt Berlin.
His appearance as the Leafs emergency goalie occurred on the same ice where David Ayres become part of hockey lore three years earlier.
