Why he might be annoying:

His parents supported apartheid.
He first attempted suicide by ingesting sleeping pills, pain killers and rat poison (1980).
He smoked pot.
He fathered a child out of wedlock.
He is the name sake of the Manic Street Preachers song 'Kevin Carter.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He staunchly opposed South Africa's apartheid policy of racial separation.
While in the South African Defense Force, Kevin spoke up for a black mess hall waiter. His fellow soldiers called Kevin a 'nigger lover' and beat him up for his stance.
His photographs illustrated the brutality of apartheid and its destructive effects on black townships.
His Pulitzer Prize winning picture of a tiny, famine-stricken Sudanese girl crawling to a feeding center brought international attention to the poverty in Sudan.
The murder of his best friend may have contributed to his depression (1994).
