    Portrayed Mr. Green Jeans on 'Captain Kangaroo' (1955-84)

Why he might be annoying:

    His nickname was 'Lumpy.'
    He smoked a pipe (but only off-camera).
    He was falsely rumored to be the father of Frank Zappa, apparently due to a Zappa song titled 'Son of Mr. Green Genes.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    He joined the Marine Corps band during World War II.
    In each 'Captain Kangaroo' episode, he would introduce a live animal and teach about farming and caring for the earth.
    Bob Keeshan said of Brannum and Mr. Green Jeans, 'It was his own personal character. It represented everything that he felt strongly about.'
