The Resume

    (July 21, 1926-September 13, 2009)
    Born in New Orleans, Louisiana
Adam Flint on ‘Naked City,’ Joe Gallagher on ‘12 O’Clock High,’ and Nicholas Broderick on ‘Hot Shots’
Appeared in ‘Screaming Eagles,’ ‘Valley of the Dolls,’ ‘The Thomas Crown Affair (1968),’ and ‘Once You Kiss a Stranger’
Recurring roles on Dynasty and Santa Barbara
    Irish father, Italian mother

Why he might be annoying:

Almost all of his early roles (some uncredited) involved a military / war premise.
In his most famous roles, he was actually a replacement for the lead.
Along with an attorney and former district attorney, he was charged in a gambling racket (1989, since acquitted).
There is minor confusion online as to whether he had three or four children.
Curiously, he had only one appearance on Columbo — in 1990 (his final role overall).

Why he might not be annoying:

He stood just a drop under six feet.
As the son of a boxer and heir to a family-run nightclub and restaurant, he spent much of his childhood around the latter business.
He was a close friend of David Janssen.
He would go on to become a close friend of Aaron Spelling (hence that Dynasty role).
While he waited several years to remarry, both of his marriages passed the 25-year mark.
