The Resume

    (March 3, 1914-April 11, 1980)
    Born in Brooklyn, New York
Birth name was Charlotte Virginia Henry
Best known for playing the title role in Paramount's all-star big-budget picture, 'Alice in Wonderland' (1933)
Also known for playing Bo Peep in the MGM operetta, 'Babes in Toyland,' better known as 'March of the Wooden Soldiers' (1934)
Acted in 'Courage,' 'Huckleberry Finn,' 'Lena Rivers,' 'The Last Gentleman,' 'Charlie Chan at the Opera,' 'The Return of Jimmy Valentine,' 'Mandarin Mystery,' 'God's Country and the Man,' and 'Young Dynamite'

Why she might be annoying:

She did a Charlie Chan film.
She started modelling at age 5.
She was a poor man's Mary Pickford.
She was typecast as 'Mary Sue' good girls with no personalities.
She tried, and failed, to revive her career by dying her hair black.
She claimed to have left the filmmaking industry simply 'because I lost interest.'
She said about the experience 'I no longer existed as Charlotte Henry. With that costume, I was transformed in their minds to the creature they had read about as children. My identity was gone.'
Her casting as Alice came with media blitz-generated hype but failed to rescue Paramount from the brink of bankruptcy (that was accomplished by a series of 1933 Mae West sex comedies, instead).
Paramount tried to save face by cashing in on the publicity and loaning her out to other studios. When she returned, Paramount was under new management and unceremoniously released her (her career never recovered).

Why she might not be annoying:

    She was very charming.
She was a classmate of Betty Grable and Anita Louise.
She worked several times with tragic child star, Junior Durkin.
She probably could have been Paramount's answer to Anne Shirley.
She did a Frank Buck jungle serial film.
She beat out over 1,000 girls for the part of Alice.
She was briefly considered for the role of Dorothy Gale.
She was never bitter about failing to build a career from her 'Alice' role.
Even in her later years, her license plate was the name Alice spelled backwards (ECILA).
A biographer called her 'the closest talking pictures ever came to a Betty Bronson.'
She is fondly remembered as Bo Peep in Laurel and Hardy's 'March of the Wooden Soldiers' (it is a holiday TV stable in the Thanksgiving/Christmas season).
She could have gone in a dozen different directions after her career tanked, but she avoided a tragic fate by starting a successful employment agency with her mother.
