Why The People Next Door might be annoying:

It was cancelled after five episodes.
It cast Jeffrey Jones in the leading role of Walter, although he was better suited as a character actor.
It centered around Walter having a weird psychic ability by making things appear or come to life by imagining it altogether.
Walter came off as being delusional and creepy instead, especially when his fiancée couldn't see his creations.
It was negatively panned by television critics, who felt it was too weird for television.

Why The People Next Door might not be annoying:

It was a side project created by Wes Craven, who was looking to expand his repertoire outside of horror films.
Wes was unable to oversee the entirety of the show's run outside of the pilot episode, due to his directorial commitment on 'Shocker.'
Leslie Jordan turned down a recurring role on 'ALF' to star on the show.
Some people say that Walter's imagination could have been a way to help channel his grief following the loss of his wife.
