    Founded the Kalmar Union joining the Scandinavian nations under a single monarch (1397)

    At age ten, she married 24-year-old Haakon.
    Albert of Mecklenburg, her main rival for the Swedish throne, dubbed her 'King Pantsless.'
    She continued as de facto ruler after her nephew and designated heir, Eric of Pomerania, was crowned (1397).

    She recovered lost territories in Finland, Gotland, and Schleswig.
    The Scandinavian union she forged lasted over a century.
    Historian Knut Gjerset called her 'the first great ruling Queen in European history.'
