The Resume

    (1983-1995)
Lead by former English Beat vocalists Dave Wakeling and Ranking Roger
Recorded the singles ‘Tenderness’ (1984) and ‘I’ll Take You There’ (1994)

Why they might be annoying:

The band members other than Wakeling and Roger changed from album to album.
Showing the same creativity as Big Country, Talk Talk, and Living in a Box, their first single was called ‘General Public.’
They broke up over creative differences (1987), reunited (1993), then broke up again over Ranking Roger’s dislike of touring America (1995).
They were included in VH1’s ‘100 Greatest One-Hit Wonders of the 80s’ even though their 1994 cover of ‘I’ll Take You There’ charted higher than ‘Tenderness.’

Why they might not be annoying:

‘Tenderness’ was featured in the John Hughes films ‘Sixteen Candles’ and ‘Weird Science.’
Former Clash guitarist Mick Jones appeared on their first and last albums.
During the group’s hiatus, Wakeling started a family and worked for Greenpeace.
Ranking Roger died of lung and brain cancer at age 56 (2019).
