Why they might be annoying:

They took a 13-year hiatus from releasing a new album.
This coupled with their attempting to segue into a Reggae-Rockabilly sound, resulted the band dying a quiet death by 2006.
They chose the name 'The Prisoners' to troll the Chilean government.
But Claudio had originally billed them as the Chilean insect 'The Vinchukas,' suggesting a kinship as 'The Beatles of their country' (as it was Jorge and Miguel liked to pretend to be Lennon and McCartney during their high school performances).
Jorge and Claudio clashed several times over the appropriateness of using their music to make political statements.
That being said, its not like they hadn't tackled Chilean social inequity, education, and economic policy before, but it got a little trickier when Jorge started making post-9/11 comments related to the War on Terror.
The tensions reached a breaking point when Jorge ad-libbed during a live 2003 broadcast at the Vina Del Mar festival, changing lyrics to take shots at George W. Bush (Claudio left the group months later).
When they held a press conference announcing Claudio's replacement they were incessantly badgered about the nature of his departure, Jorge became so annoyed that he walked (after knocking over the microphones and throwing a jug at the reporters).

Why they might not be annoying:

They are recognized as pioneers in both 'New Chilean Pop,' and in Rock en español (Rock in Spanish).
Their songs were used by Chilean freedom activists to protest the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.
For this, their music was banned by government controlled media over a five-year period (but continued to thrive through homemade cassette copies).
'Baile De Los Que Sobran' was awarded Best Song of the Year in Peru (1986).
They won Super Rock Magazine's Best Album of the Year for 'Pateando Piedras' (1986).
They were named 'Best Musical Group' in Chile by SuperRock Magazine (1986).
'Baile De Los Que Sobran' was awarded Best Song of the Year by 'SuperRock' Magazine. It sold 5,000 copies in just 10 days (1986).
'Tren Al Sur' was nominated for 'Best Latin Video' by the American TV Chain MTV (1990).
When MTV Latino made their debut, they chose as their first video broadcast their 'We are Sudamerican Rockers' video (Oct. 1, 1993).
'Pateando' reached Double Platinum Level after selling 20,000 copies in just over 2 months.
Their 2001 Reunion Concert at the Estadio Nacional drew a record 150,000 fans (doesn't sound like a lot by American standards, but that's a huge number for Chile on its own).
They were honored at a special MTV Latino concert/award ceremony celebrating its 10-year anniversary, at which their song 'Sudamerican Rockers' was showcased as a South American 'rock anthem' (2003).
Their legacy was honored with a special tribute album, on which Latin Music greats La Ley, Los Lobos, Glup!, Lucybell, and Los Tetas all collaborated on.
