Hockey Player

The Resume

    (January 13, 1997- )
Born in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada
Drafted first overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft
    Forward for the Edmonton Oilers
Played junior with the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League (2012-15)
Canadian Hockey League Player of the Year (2015)

Why he might be annoying:

Like Sidney Crosby a decade earlier, he was extremely hyped as a junior prospect.
Many Canadian hockey pundits continually hyped up his draft year by frequently calling it the 'Connor McDavid Sweepstakes.'
The Buffalo Sabres went as far as deliberately tanking their season in order to draft him with the first overall pick (it backfired).
He broke his hand in a fight, which cost him to miss six weeks during his draft eligible season.
He looks like Haley Joel Osment.
He was dubbed 'The LeBron James of hockey' by some Toronto area journalists.
He initially didn't embrace the idea of playing in Edmonton, when the Oilers won the Draft Lottery.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the third player in Canadian Hockey League history to be granted exceptional player status.
He was considered a generational talent by hockey pundits.
He recorded 209 points in an 88 game season in the minor midget ranks.
He earned the OHL Playoff MVP Award, despite his team losing the championship series in five games (2015).
He wears #97 in honor of his birth year.
Despite his initial reservations about playing in Edmonton, he changed his stance upon visiting the city and speaking with team officials.
