Why they might be annoying:

Over the years, they have had eight bass guitarists -- eleven, if you include touring musicians who never played on records.
They had to retitle their album 'Lysol' as 'The Melvins' after the manufacturers of Lysol disinfectant protested (1992).
Reportedly, much of the audience was lying on the floor covering their ears during the concert captured on their experimental live album 'Colossus of Destiny.' (1998)
During a 2011 tour, they played Christchurch, New Zealand, the day before a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck the city (February 22), and were scheduled to play in Tokyo the night eastern Japan was rocked by an 8.9 magnitude earthquake, the most powerful earthquake recorded in Japan (March 11).
