The Resume

    (September 20, 1990-May 18, 1991)
Science fiction TV series about a police lab technician who gains superspeed and becomes a costumed superhero after being hit by lightening and splashed with chemicals
John Wesley Shipp as Barry Allen/The Flash
Amanda Pays as Christina 'Tina" MGee
    Alex Desert as Julio Mendez
Semi-regulars included Mike Genovese, M Emmet Walsh and Richard Belzer
    Aired on CBS
Based on the DC Comics character
Remembered chiefly for its fantastic special effects, high production costs, and short life

Why The Flash (1990) might be annoying:

At $1.5 million per episode, it was the most expensive TV series up to that date.
The writing, particularly the dialogue, ranged from mediocre to atrocious, and the directing made the very capable regular cast look amateurish.
Regular Alex Desert's character, despite being a trained scientist, was little more than a stereotypical jive-talking black guy.
Every episode was extremely violent: all but two episodes featured multiple murders and 14 involved the murders of multiple police officers.
It lasted only 22 episodes, getting absolutely creamed in the ratings by The Cosby Show on NBC and The Simpsons on <12003>Fox

Why The Flash (1990) might not be annoying:

The special effects were fantastic even by modern standards, and the show's overall 'look,' inspired by the 1984 movie 'Streets of Fire,' was just awesome.
John Wesley Shipp was perfect for the title role.
The Flash's outfit was just perfect.
It had an outstanding soundtrack with a great opening theme by Danny Elfman.
The guest starring cast was sensational and included Jeffrey Combs, Jeri Ryan, Corinne Bohrer, Dick Miller, and Signy Coleman.
Other guest stars included Wes Studi, Lois Nettleton, Billy Mumy and in a sensational recurring role as 'The Trickster' Mark Hamill.
One of the CBS executives responsible for its cancellation later said cancelling it was one the biggest mistakes of his career.
