He suffered eight concussions throughout the course of his playing career with half of them being undiagnosed.
He lost a good portion of his earnings due to poor investments.

He suffered a shift in personality upon his retirement from the NFL as he was considered volatile and irritable by friends and family.

He served as a reliable receiving threat during his four year tenure at the University of Washington.
Despite being considered a mid to low round draft pick, he was selected in the second round.
He was so highly regarded by then Saints head coach Mike Ditka, that he was willing to draft him in the higher rounds.
He spent his formative years playing on poor Saints teams.
He serves as a coordinator with various youth football programs within his home state of Washington.
