Basketball Player

The Resume

    (May 19, 1957- )
Unofficial leader of the ‘Bad Boys'
Played for the Cleveland Cavaliers (1980-82)
    Detroit Pistons, (1982-94)
Coached the Detroit Shock to the WNBA championship (2002)

Why he might be annoying:

Outside of Detroit, he is one of the most hated players ever.
He was the leader of the ‘BadBoys.'
It was once suggested that the Pistons should change their logo to a tire iron smashing a skull, because Laimbeer and the Bad Boys played ‘thug ball.'
He frequently kneed, stepped on, threw elbows, sucker punches and shoulders at opponents. However, he was known as a ‘flopper' when he was on defense.
He has been called the biggest cheap-shot artist in the history of the NBA.
He told Sports Illustrated, ‘I don't fight. I agitate, then walk away.'
Teammate Isiah Thomas said, ‘Tell you the truth, if I didn't know Bill, I wouldn't like him either.'
As a freshman, he flunked out of Notre Dame.
He played one of the Sleestak during the first season of the TV series Land of the Lost.
In typical Laimbeer fashion, his streak of 685 games played (over 8 seasons long) ended not because of injury, but because of a suspension.

Why he might not be annoying:

His 685 games was the 4th longest such streak in NBA history.
He helped lead the Bad Boys to back-to-back championships in 1989 and 1990.
He may have had the best jump shot of any big man in history.
His presence was so intimidating that many players didn't want to go to the hole on him.
Although opponents hated him, teammates loved him.
He took Dennis Rodman under his wing when Rodman was a young player.
He would take on anyone, which earned him league-wide respect.
He guided the Detroit Shock to the WNBA championship in 2002.
He has been mentioned as a possible future head coach in the NBA.
Although he came from a very affluent background, he embodied the Detroit blue-collar work ethic. Because of this, he is still adored by Piston fans.
He is the Pistons, all-time leader in career rebounds, and his jersey number (40) was retired by the franchise.
