Birth name was Robert Norman Davis

Why he might be annoying:

He was nicknamed Carrot for having wildly thick red hair — which he would ultimately lop off.
Only in 1983 was it confirmed that he said, ‘Ringo isn’t the best drummer in the world. He isn’t even the best drummer in the Beatles.’ (It was previously attributed to John Lennon.)
Dangerous sports were a frequent source of subject matter in his material.
‘I am amazed at radio DJ’s today. I am firmly convinced that AM on my radio stands for Absolute Moron. I will not begin to tell you what FM stands for.’
He underwent a quadruple heart bypass operation (2017).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was lifelong friends with future Electric Light Orchestra alumnus Bev Bevan — which certainly didn’t hurt his music path.
He made his first television appearance (‘The Golden Game for BBC Midlands’) around the time of his first single (‘Funky Moped,’ which kicked off a nearly-three-decade music run).
He developed a collection of anecdotal sketches based around the ‘Brummie’ accent and culture (including the football team) of his hometown.
Badly-built cars were a frequent source of subject matter in his material (especially the Citroen 2CV).
‘Laughter is the best medicine — unless you’re diabetic; then insulin comes pretty high on the list.’
