He lived in the shadow of his brother Roberto.
He became a journeyman player shortly after leaving the Indians.
He was extremely injury prone.
He was relegated to backup status with other teams after leaving the Indians.
Prior to the 1997 season, baseball pundits were considering his career to be a disappointment.

Why he might not be annoying:

Following two call-up stints with the Padres, he established himself as an everyday player shortly after his trade to the Indians.
He was acquired by the Indians in the Joe Carter trade (1990).
He was the first rookie catcher to start in the All-Star Game (1990).
He recorded a 30 game hitting streak (1997).
During the 1997 season, he posted career highs in all categories and was instrumental in helping the Indians make their second World Series appearance in three years.
