The Resume

    (May 8, 1942- )
    Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico
    Jockey
    7,057 career wins
Won the Kentucky Derby three times (1974,1976,1985), the Preakness Stakes twice (1980,1984) and the Belmont Stakes once (1976)

Why he might be annoying:

His aggressive riding prompted 'Blood-Horse' editor Kent Hollingsworth to write that he does 'irresponsible things which endanger other horses and riders.'
During the 1978 Travers Stakes, he was accused of interfering with Affirmed so Alydar, ridden by his friend Jorge Velasquez, would win.
He got into several fights in the jockey's room after races, saying of one, 'I pay $350 fine, and he pay $350 to fix his nose.'
Fixer Tony Ciulla claimed Cordero was one of the jockeys he bribed to throw races at New York tracks (1978). Although nothing was proven against Cordero, the State Racing and Wagering Board described his testimony as 'incredible and patently unbelievable.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He encountered vicious racism during his early years of racing in America.
He was known for his crowd-pleasing leaping dismounts in the winner's circle.
He won the Eclipe Award for Outstanding Jockey three times (1982-83,1985).
His wife Marjorie was killed by a hit and run driver (January, 2001).
