The Resume

    (1942- )
    Born in Mexico City, Mexico
    Resides in San Antonio, Texas
Fourteen-year-old passenger on the SS Andrea Doria when it collided with the MS Stockholm in the Atlantic Ocean (July 25, 1956)
Thrown out of her cabin on the Andrea Doria onto the deck of the Stockholm, suffering only a broken arm
Dubbed the 'miracle girl' by news media
Married Phil Hardberger in 1968 (who became mayor of San Antonio in 2005)

Why she might be annoying:

Not able to speak English at the time, nobody on the Stockholm knew who she was, and early news reports listed her as dead.
In 1980, someone found the key to her cabin of the Andrea Doria and offered it to her, but she refused it.
While everybody else calls her husband Phil, she calls him Phillip.
She spent a year as a teacher before deciding it wasn't a job for her.
Living as a red-state Texan, she describes herself thusly: 'I'm really a blue-state person, not politically, but intellectually. I like the glitz - the museums, the theater, the shopping.'

Why she might not be annoying:

The shipwreck took the life of her stepfather and half-sister, as well as 48 other people, and severely injured her mother.
Her father, New York news commentator Edward P. Morgan, famously reported the disaster believing she had been killed, only to tear up on air when he learned she was alive.
She suffers from occasion bouts of survivor's guilt and to this day is afraid of fog.
Calling herself 'not really the adventurous type,' she surprised many people (including herself) by making a two year ocean sailboat journey with her husband.
She holds dual citizenship in the U.S. and Mexico.
She can now speak Spanish, English, Italian, and some French and German.
She is a director for the Tobin Foundation for Theatre Arts in San Antonio.
As first lady of San Antonio she wanted to help the city grow, stating, 'It's wrong not controlling how you become a big city. We now have a chance to do that.'
Her plans were to open more cultural centers and community centers, so seniors can interact more freely with children.
