The Resume

    (October 27, 1952- )
    Born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania
Pitcher for the Chicago White Sox (1975-76), Toronto Blue Jays (1977), St. Louis Cardinals (1978-80), and Milwaukee Brewers (1981-86)
    93 wins, 69 losses
    3.66 career ERA
    Cy Young Award winner (1982)
Appeared in the film 'Major League' (1989)

Why he might be annoying:

He was nicknamed 'Vuck the Spook.'
He was known for his odd behavior on the mound, ranging from crossing his eyes and sticking his tongue out at the batter up to dry heaving.
He would wear Puma on one foot, Adidas on the other.
The year after his Cy Young Award, he discovered during spring training that he had torn his rotator cuff and was never a dominant pitcher again.

Why he might not be annoying:

He had several close brushes with death growing up: he was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck; at 18 months, he suffered undiagnosed appendicitis that led to peritonitis; and he had to undergo emergency surgery during his sophomore year in high school due to complications from his earlier appendicitis.
He was a good enough football player to have been offered scholarships by Navy, Pitt, and Michigan State.
Brewers catcher Gorman Thomas said about his eccentric behavior, 'He knew what he was doing. He'd get other people to focus more on his mannerisms than what they're supposed to be doing.'
He and Thomas opened a bar in Milwaukee, 'Stormin' & Vuke's' that was popular with the cast during filming of 'Major League.'
In 'Major League,' he improvised his line to catcher Jake Taylor (Tom Berenger), 'How's your wife and my kids?'
