    At one concert, he informed the audience that he takes no responsibility for what they are about to hear (April, 1962).
    He gave everyone way too much attitude.

    He is arguably the most famous conductor of all time.
    He spent his life teaching children the joys of music.
    He brought a certain machismo to classical music.
    He was open about being a bisexual.
    He learned piano at 10 years old, when his mother stored a friend's piano in their home.
