Why they might be annoying:

Though there were four girls for recording they presented themselves as a three girl group while touring (Betty didn't like to tour).
They ditched the wholesome image they created for a rougher edge once 'Leader of the Pack' hit it big.
Being underage and strictly chaperoned, they weren't allowed to party with other acts touring in their shows.
Their record company folded at the height of their popularity and their new company didn't promote them at all, so they quit less than five years after forming.
Mary Ann's death has been variously tied to a drug overdose, a seizure or encephalitis.
After the surviving three played a few gigs at New York's CBGB Club in 1977, a reunion tour was hinted, but never materialized.

Why they might not be annoying:

Their first two singles, 'Remember (Walking in the Sand)' and 'Leader of the Pack' went to #5 and #1 respectively on Billboard's U.S. Singles chart in 1964.
They toured with the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Byrds and Jan & Dean.
They were also part of a successful R&B tour, opening for James Brown, the Drifters, the Supremes and the Coasters.
So successful was the tour they were named 'Best New Vocal Group of 1964' in the R&B category by Cash Box Magazine.
'Leader of the Pack,' initially banned in the U.K., was reissued in 1972 and hit #3, then re-reissued in 1976 and hit #7.
Mary did a guest vocal on Aerosmith's 1979 remake of 'Remember (Walking in the Sand).'
In the late '80s, an imposter group stated they were 'back on the circuit' using their name without permission, necessitating a court order to stop them.
