Why he might be annoying:

He was married three times, divorced twice (including a divorce from Mary Tyler Moore).
At NBC, he approved a slate of nine new shows for the fall 1983 line-up (including the infamous Manimal), none of which would last a full season.
After leaving NBC, he formed GTG Entertainment with the Gannet newspaper chain, but failed to replicate his MTM success.
When NBC dropped the GTG-distributed Baywatch after one season, he sold the rights to the executive producers for $10.

Why he might not be annoying:

He guided NBC’s rebound from last to first in ratings among the ‘big three’ networks.
He had a reputation as a hands-off manager who nurtured quality,
He gave Hill Street Blues and Cheers the chance to find their audiences after low-rated but critically praised first seasons.
