The Resume

    (November 13, 1927-March 25, 2008)
    Born in Belen, New Mexico
Birth name was Arthur Benjamin Aragon
    Lightweight boxer (1944-60)
    Nicknamed 'The Golden Boy'
    90 wins (61 by KO), 20 losses
Acted in 'The Ring (1952),' 'Off Limits (1952),' 'To Hell and Back (1955),' 'World in My Corner (1956),' and 'Fat City (1972)'

Why he might be annoying:

    He dated Mamie Van Doren.
He was married four times and engaged a fifth.
When he met Carmen Basilio at the weighing in, Basilio asked him how things were going. ‘Not so good,’ he said. ‘Both my wife and my girlfriend are here.’
He convicted of conspiring to fix a welterweight fight in his favor (February 1957). The conviction was later overturned on a technicality.
He lost his one title bout, a bid for Jimmy Carter’s lightweight championship.

Why he might not be annoying:

He had the 'Golden Boy' nickname before Oscar de la Hoya.
He was good friends with Audie Murphy.
He was able to parlay his boxing into a competent acting career.
He attained status as a fan favorite 'villain' after beating Enrique Bolanos twice, resulting in his getting booed whenever he entered the arena (he relished it).
He was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990.
After retiring from boxing, he was a bail bondsman in Los Angeles.
