U.S. Congressman

The Resume

    (January 25, 1957- )
    Born in Brooklyn, New York
    Anesthesiologist and politician
Member of the Maryland Senate (1999-2011)
Represents Maryland's 1st Congressional District (assumed office January 3, 2011)
    Republican

Why he might be annoying:

He endorsed Donald Trump's election conspiracy theories, claiming there had been 'secret, unobserved vote counting in the swing states.'
He tried to minimize the storming of the Capitol, saying, 'Later we heard there was a gunshot, but other than that, there was no indication that this was a truly violent protest.'
He later claimed antifa and leftist provocateurs were behind the attack.
He voted against giving the Congressional Gold Medal to the police officers who defended the Capitol.
He is a supporter of authoritarian Hungarian leader Viktor Orban and criticizes State Department efforts to support independent news media in Hungary.
He encouraged parents not to vaccinate their children against COVID-19, argued against vaccine mandates in schools, and urged pregnant women and people previously exposed to COVID-19 to not get the vaccine.
During a radio show, he replied 'Good idea' to a caller who said he would not get the COVID-19 vaccine, but would instead take ivermectin to boost his immune system (September 17, 2020).
He then admitted to prescribing ivermectin to patients himself and complained about the difficulty in finding pharmacies willing to fulfill prescriptions for a livestock de-wormer for uses not authorized by the FDA, CDC, or WHO.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the Navy Medical Corps during Operation Desert Storm.
He continued practicing medicine part-time while serving in Congress.
When it came to hydroxychloroquine -- the far right's pre-ivermectin choice of COVID-19 snake oil -- he said 'the jury is still out' on its effectiveness.
He administered COVID-19 vaccinations at community centers. (Presumably before the need to maintain his far-right credentials led him to an anti-vaxx stance.)
